About Bio Joe’s Landscaping
Your yard is its own tiny ecosystem. At Bio Joe’s, we seek to recreate the symbiosis, or balance, found in a natural ecosystem and apply it to your landscaping at home. Our designs/ methodology are scientifically proven to better support local pollinators and microscopic soil life, conserve water for healthier plants, and still have a functioning yard to use how you want.
We don’t spray. We don’t use gas. Every project starts with real data collected from and tested in your own yard.
Ecology-Based Landscape Design
A gas mower produces as much pollution in 1 hour as driving a car 300 miles would.
Our EGO commercial battery equipment runs with zero exhaust, much lower noise, and no petroleum fumes left in the soil we’re restoring.
How We Think About Your Yard
Healthy soil is a living system. We rebuild it with compost, mycorrhizal inoculants, biochar, and worm castings — turning compacted Denver clay into soil that holds water and feeds plants.
These soil management practices build organic matter, enhance microbial diversity, and restore natural nutrient cycles through strategic organic amendment applications, and promotion of beneficial soil organisms.
We prioritize drought-adapted native plants for Denver’s zones 5b–6a — species that evolved for our rainfall, alkaline soils, and intense sun. Less water, more pollinators, better results.
Every plant we recommend is chosen for Denver’s specific soil, climate, and water conditions.
Free Soil Testing — Limited Time
Every free consultation includes a professional soil test — pH, organic matter, macro and micronutrients — plus our recommendations. No obligation.
Who is BioJoe?

Joe DeVries founded Bio Joe’s Landscaping to design, build, and maintain residential landscapes across Edgewater and the west Denver metro.
Joe brings a unique scientific foundation to residential landscaping. He studied biology at East Carolina University with a concentration in ecology and evolution, ran a landscaping company in North Carolina, then spent three years doing environmental sampling in biopharmaceutical laboratories.
His expertise in wetland mapping and soil sampling became the foundation of a soil testing process Joe built specifically for Bio Joe’s. Each plan is tailored directly to your soil’s biology, tested right in your yard.
Bio Joe’s grew out of that approach. Joe founded the company to bring the principles of regenerative agriculture, long established in farming and restoration ecology, into residential landscaping. The premise is straightforward: a yard is a small ecosystem, and treating it as one produces results that compound over time. Healthy soil holds water, supports the microbial life plants need to thrive, and adapts to Colorado’s high-altitude climate rather than collapsing under it. The landscapes Joe builds are designed to keep getting better year after year, not to peak in a single season.
Bio Joe’s takes on full design-build installations along with ongoing maintenance services that will help your plants thrive. Joe built the company around a simple standard: is this the right call for the soil? Where does this fit into the local environment of your yard?
Joe lives in Edgewater with his wife and their chocolate lab.
Our Approach: Soil First, Always
Every project follows regenerative principles: minimize disturbance, keep soil covered, maintain living roots, maximize biodiversity. We don’t just maintain your yard — we build soil that gets stronger every year.
